Skin and Bones

Shading practice using a screencap from Skin and Bones, an episode of short-lived NBC horror anthology series Fear Itself. I watched it when it aired and this struck me as by far the scariest episode. Doug Jones plays a man possessed by a wendigo, with great makeup effects and one of the creepiest smiles I’ve ever seen. An interesting thing about this myth is that it presents many different emotions and themes of survival to emphasize. Greed and starvation are a common focus, but here anger is the most important element. The man is lost and dying without confronting the people who have wronged him, and the spirit uses this to tempt him and corrupt mind and body alike.
